Tourism in Comarca del Jiloca (Teruel)

The Cid Route

Mapa Camino del CidThe Cid Route is a cultural itinerary, with a literary background, that follows the track left by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar through the Cantar de Mío Cid, one of the greatest works of the Medieval literature.

This route is promoted and disseminated throughout the Consorcio Camino del Cid official web site, which we make a reference for further information about the existent routes at national level.

The Cid Route starts in a locality close to Burgos and finish in Valencia. It passes through eight Spanish provinces (Burgos, Soria, Guadalajara, Zaragoza, Teruel, Castellón, Valencia y Alicante) belonging to four Autonomous Communities (Castilla León, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragón and Comunidad Valenciana) passing through areas low population density in general.

The Cid arrived to Comarca del Jiloca after passing through the Jalón Valley and coming from Terrer and Calatayud to finally settle down on the top of San Esteban´s hill, which is located towards the town called El Poyo del Cid where he established with his troops.

Once settled in El Poyo, his troops carried out several incursions, looking for loot around the areas under Muslim domain at that time.

This part of the Cid Route, that goes through El Poyo del Cid and some other localities close to that, also cited in the Cantar (like Monreal del Campo), is the known Route of the Three Taifas.
